Inspired by William Eggleston
Photo of Eggleston by Eric Chakeen
My work for this project was inspired by photographer William Eggleston. Eggleston was a pioneer for color photography during the 1960s when color photography was only used for commercial work and not considered as fine art. His style is characterized by rich color composition, simple ordinary subjects, balanced placement of objects, and a crisp but soft feel. I wanted to emulate his work because I liked how comfortable it was to view his images and how he made the color pop in such a brilliant way. Eggleston maintains a neutral gaze when photographing so each subject and its colors are able to shine. I had a great experience admiring Eggleston’s work, learning from his style, and noticing beautiful objects and colors in my surroundings. I hope to continue incorporating the elements I learned into my works as I continue to grow as a photographer.
